Lol I forgot all about this thing...

- I moved back to Deltona.
- I saw Nygma and Viper at the bar I go to every weekend in Daytona. Good times!
- Special someone?
- I want to play DDR at Speedpark like old times. When do you guys from the Daytona crew usually play?
     - Message me on AIM: ItzMelkYo

I can finally live drama-free again. I can finally be me again!

Bed time.

Hello, Livejournal. I, sorry I don't have time for you like I used to.

I just felt like commenting that I don't understand how I've been trying to learn Java for a month and a half now, reading my textbook, books online, even buying books of my own...

And then randomly one night after staying up all night (a common occurrence nowadays), reading the exact same things as always from who knows how many sources (the internet, lol...), it suddenly CLICKS and I can write my third project without having written the first or second.

HOW?

I did find a paper someone wrote about why learning Java is so hard for procedural programmers (I, like most people, had to take C before Java. but I, unlike most people, had absolutely no programming experience whatsoever, minus the basic html, lol). He said this:

"The explanation is simple but probably surprising. Someone who has learned a procedural programming
language, such as C or Pascal, thinks in a paradigm that differs from how OO programmers view and try
to solve computing problems. When this person needs to learn OOP, he or she has to go through a
paradigm shift. It is said that switching your mind view from the procedural to the object-oriented
paradigm takes six to 18 months. It is like a Buddhist trying to comprehend the concept of trinity in
Christianity."

--"Why Is OOP So Hard? Mastering OOP is one of the biggest challenges Java programmers face." by Budi Kurniawan, Posted October 15, 2002 (to protect myself, lol)

Six to 18 months! I believe it. I just had no other choice but to learn, lol

But yeah... less than 24 hours ago I thought I would be a C programmer for life. Now I'm kind of liking this whole Java thing. :)

Back to coding (lol)... I hope everyone is okay, and hello! I miss everyone! I'll return to life one day, maybe when I'm done with school...

So I'm in the pet emergency clinic because my cat (Minnie) was experiencing rectal bleeding, 3 nights into her anti-anxiety medication treatment. Worried they were related, I rushed her to this ER. I've been here since about 1am (it's 3:30am now). They did lots of bloodwork to check for UTI's or anything off (we believe she is the culprit of urinating on every couch in the house), extra lab work (urine analysis and fecal), and even x-rays (to check for a foreign body that she may have swallowed).

The x-rays, which alone were almost $200, ended up being the smart choice. It turns out Minnie has a blockage of poop. Yup...her poop is backed up all the way into her colon.

So $525 later, Minnie is about to be discharged after a battery of tests and an enema.

My cat sure has some expensive crap if you ask me.

Although I am disappointed to not receive any medical answer on her increased aggression lately (it's probably stress from the new dog and my other cat's infatuation with my roommate's cat), I feel much better knowing that those tests are out of the way and that she is, overall, healthy.

But bye bye birthday money and Christmas presents...

EDIT: The cool part is, though, that they put the x-ray images on a cd for me to take home. I'm eager4 to see what $500 poop looks like.

Leonids Meteor Shower Tonight!

It seems to be peaking around 6am but starting as early as midnight.

To find out your best time, I found Check out http://leonid.arc.nasa.gov/estimator.html

It really is awesome. You can tell all the others when THEIR best time would be. :)

EDIT: If you want to find your EXACT location's best times, find your latitude and longitude at www.stevemorse.org/jcal/latlon.php

Don't forget to change where you are (suburbs, downton, countryside, etc.)...it makes a HUGE difference.

ATTN EVERYONE:

If you haven't heard of this before:

Call the Rejection Hotline. Oh, and this is NOT for rejecting someone like when you give them a fake number when you don't want to talk to them. It's something else. :)

973-409-3279

You won't talk to anyone. There is nobody there, it's purely a recording. Maybe a minute. But it is *hilarious!!*

That is all. Enjoy!

I just realized that my birthday is in 5 days. I'll be 22.

I have nothing planned, nor do I think anyone else does. I'll probably end up studying for the night, as I have done literally every night (except Halloween), for at least 4-5 (sometimes 8 or so!) hours at a time, for the past 2 weeks.

I hope I make it through this semester (grade-wise; I love studying now). I'm really just looking forward to next semester - a fresh start.

I voted!

For once I have a say in the country!

Before you vote, make sure you read/vote about the amendments as well. There is specifically one that "protects marriage as a bond between one man and one woman" (wording is probably slightly different, but same thing), that many young, first-time voters may not think to read and vote against. There are other interesting amendments as well.

Sidekick! [Oct. 16th, 2008|11:35 am]
Thanks to Josh ([info]ddrtyger) I have a sidekick again! A sidekick 3 at that.

Unfortunately, the space bar doesn't click (you simply touch it, which feels so weirddd), the scroll down/call button doesn't work, and it's just overall crappy, but YAY I have a sidekick again!

Thank you so much, Josh!

Busy busy busy busy busy busy busy [Oct. 14th, 2008|09:22 pm]
Work + School + effort is HARD.

This is the first year of college I've ever really put much effort into school. Waking up early nearly every day I'm supposed to be there, actually doing homework...

Yesterday, I spent 7 hours doing homework after I got off work at 7pm. I couldn't sleep until after 6am. Tonight I got off work at 8pm. It's 9:30 now and I'm starting on homework again. I didn't finish my one assignment from last night that's on a quiz we have tomorrow. I'd also like to continue studying for my Computer Science test on Friday.

Yet for some reason, putting in this extra effort seems to have no effect on my performance in school.

I don't get it.

So whatever day it was, I dropped my sidekick in my drink. So no sidekick until I can afford to buy a new one in a couple weeks.

Then on Tuesday, my laptop's AC adapter decided to give up. So I went from Tuesday until just now, Saturday, with NO internet. I just about died the first night, but it actually got easier. I actually found other things to do, lol.

But alas, here I am again. I bought a universal AC adapter that WAS on sale for $80, but they forgot to change the price tag back to $110 or whatever. So I got $30 off today. :)

Helloooooooo Internet!

So last night I dropped my sidekick into my nearly full drink. I shorted out the display screen.

I cant afford another sidekick for at least a month, so keep that in mind. I won't be on AIM or checking LJ and Facebook nearly as much. And I don't have text messaging to my sidekick anymore until further notice. If you have my cell phone number that I use to talk on, go ahead and text me there. I have turned off service to my sidekick to save me money until I get a new one, so apparently if you send me messages while it's off, I will never get them and they'll be lost forever.

Life is strenuous right now. Finances are under control, but only thanks to my parents (thank you guys, SO much), the living situation is crazy (another story for another day), and my new hours start at work on Monday. I'll work daily from 1:30 or 2:00 to 9:00 on weekdays and will be able to get back on track financially again.

It's a good thing to note that when you clean a room, things tend to get messier before they get clean.

Hello, Fall! [Sep. 22nd, 2008|02:38 pm]
The Obama rally was fun. Well, I can't say that standing up for 5 hours, 4 of them in the exact same spot jammed in between people, was fun, but overall it was an amazing experience. And I got to see/hear Obama. We were about 100-200 feet away from him, in a crowd of 20,000. There were another 8,000 who stayed ouside the gate because the park was full.

School is getting better. I'm finding myself more motivated as I work harder and do better. It makes sense, but I guess I had to figure that out on my own, lol.

Work is decent. Making about $9/hr typing. I may or may not go elsewhere.

Nothing else to report. :)

Hello, Sun.

I'm finally finished with my first real programming project, so I'm going to go to sleep and pretend you aren't there.

But alas, I will see you in just a few hours!

This whole making $500 a month thing isn't working.

Although my dad is already giving me $625 a month for bills, and both parents providing more as needed, my bills are much more than that and I have little to enjoy on what I want. It's stressful and it really brings my whole attitude down. I don't use that time to study usually (I study at night), so I'm picking up more hours at work.

At my work, I choose my own hours on whatever days. If I work at least 28 hours a week, I'll get an extra $2.16 per hour, making my hourly pay anywhere from about $9.75 to $11.00, closer to the $10.25 area probably. I type, and how fast I type determines how much I make. Obviously it will fluctuate depending on who's speaking in the recording, how tired I am, etc.

So now I'll be making much more money. I'll also have much less down time, meaning less time to spend that money on random outings.

I scheduled myself from 1-9 or 2-9 depending on the day. I also have decided to work only in 1- and 1.5-hour increments, because typing gets tiring. But I can take breaks whenever I want, leave early, show up late, etc...as long as I work my amount of scheduled hours for the day.

I'm going to give it a try and see how it works out. I think it's time for some more structure and responsibility again.

:)

Aunt Cathy, I have your Kuwaiti money. It came out to like $90 USD if you want all of it. You're welcome to take as much or as little as you want. I'll find somewhere to exchange anything that you don't take. I hope all is well with you all and please tell everyone I said hi! Thanks again for letting us stay around New Year's. :)

Ughhh my cat has tape worms. He loves to lay on my lap all the time. I never had a grossness feeling toward tape worms until I saw them on him while he was on my bed.

I haven't seen fleas in a little while, but I guess that one advantage tube split between two cats wasn't as effective as I'd hoped.

What sucks is that this cat used to be feral, so he goes crazy in a carrier, with anyone new, in new places, etc. But my vet just said that if they need to, they can sedate him through the carrier as long as I get him there.

Ughhh how do you keep a crazy, persistently loves-to-be-loved cat off your bed when he's done nothing wrong?

I write a lot. Writing is how I express myself. But I recognize that everyone has different ways of expressing themselves, and I understand that.

So I present my haiku to you:

Regardless of how;
Express yourself from your heart,
where true freedom lies.

I got a job today. I actually never once had to leave my house to get it. I talked to this guy 2.5 years ago about a job, but his company hadn't started yet. I was going to be a transcriptionist, typing all day, until I got a job at the law firm and ended up skip tracing instead. Then I went to Kuwait and had to quit, and I absolutely refuse to go back there if at all possible. I still had emails that I sent to the guy from the other company 2.5 years ago, so I responded to the last one and explained things, advising I was yet again interested in the job. They called back, then we played phone tag, and now I go in for training tomorrow at 9AM. Because I type ~90WPM, I guess there was no question whether they wanted me? *shrug*

My car is still messed up. It's depressing, really. It seems like every time I get in it, I'm spending another $100 to fix it. It really makes me want to cry. Bleh.

I'm all done moving in, but we still have to clean the first apartment. I'm still organizing my room in the new house too.

I want to play DDR again sometime soon. I'm probably going to pick up my mom's car (my old Sunfire) when she leaves for Indiana on Thursday. I'll have it for 2 weeks and then I'll be able to go wherever.

Oh yeah, Warped Tour was fun. We met up with John and Shannon there, as well as a couple of my roommate's friends. John and I both crowdsurfed to Reel Big Fish and both made it over the front railing. :) Reel Big Fish and Angels And Airways, Against Me! and Matisyahu were all amazing. I'm incredibly sore today from all the dancing and moving. Oh and the Slip n' Slide they had there tore my hip bones up. But it was so worth it.
