Moving on up to the East side. [Nov. 7th, 2009|11:52 pm]

mastergode
So, my grandmother died today. She was all morphine'd up, and it was very peaceful.

I'm fine with it, since it wasn't exactly unexpected. The funeral's on Monday, so I'll be in Miami until Tuesday.

It's just been a really hard semester for me. Last night my vertigo came back, so now I need to go see a specialist. In all likelihood, I'll waste a lot of time, energy and money on doctors, and it won't even end up helping, in the long run. The alternative, though, is that I'll just continue to worry about it, and it will make me miserable. Sigh.

To top it off, my TV is broken, and it's going to be more than $400 to fix. T_T

And to top THAT off, my car's GPS broke. And let me tell you, I can't navigate Atlanta without it, because Atlanta is a freaking warren of roads that make no sense.

Also, I don't think I mentioned, but my roof started leaking a few weeks ago, so I had to have some dude come and fix it, and that cost some money, too.

I'm just feeling... Kind of overwhelmed, I guess. There's just SO much going on right now that I can't help but fall behind in my schoolwork, not to mention my various projects. I hardly even know what to do with myself. I mean, maybe the vertigo is stress-related. Who knows?

I don't want to make LJ posts only when I'm upset or anxious or whatnot, but it's just been a common theme, lately. I far prefer making excited posts about the various things I'm working on.

Sigh.

So yeah, funeral.

Closet Sharing! [Nov. 7th, 2009|03:36 pm]

After perusing various designing websites sometime in October I got incredibly inspired to rearrange my closet into something magical. Before, every shelf had no rhyme or reason, stacks of random clothes overran every inch of spare space, and piles cumulated on the floor instead of being hung up properly.

Maybe it started when I started at Mad4Mod. Being surrounded by wonderful organization, color coding, and merchandised racks of beautiful clothes certainly will inspire you to replicate what you can at home! Besides I needed a deserving place to house all of my incredible new purchases, some of which are over 80 years old! And so I did. I spent hours dividing, planning, and moving until finally I came across a system that really worked for me.

Below is a little sneak peak into what I accomplished, but please forgive the camera (It's pushing seniority, too!), the crazy numbering, and the lack of more views. Further down the cut is a few snippets of other people's closets that I really loved. I know there's more out there, so if there's a favorite of yours, please share! And of course, I'd love to see pictures of your closets, too!

Today I think was a blast! I enjoyed today probably moreso than any of the days so far here in Gatlinburg. Today we went to Pigeon Forge & started our day at the FORBIDDEN CAVERNS. here is the website in case your interested

forbiddencavern.com/

Walked around the dark dank underground for about an hour. There were bats, lots of Lime Stalagmites, and bats. It was as fun as a dark wet underdground tunnel gets :)

We had lunch at Fudruckers, which was pretty delicious I must say. I had a 1/2 pound burger. Yum

Then we went to this place called MAGIQUEST. Magiquest is a live video game where YOU are the main character !! It was a very cool idea and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pretty much you go on quests & level up just like in WOW or any other mmo type game. You get a wand and its sort of on the same lines as Harry Potter meets WOW. I had alot of fun and in 1 hour's time we were Master Magi's ! lol.

here the website magiquest.com/

Now we are chillin in the cabin on top of the mountain. Tommorow were going to Dixie Stampede which is a dinner theatre where you get a show & eat with your hands. Just like Midievil times in Orlando ( If you've been ) except Western!

Hope all is well, God Bless !

25 Random Things [Nov. 5th, 2009|04:52 pm]

tygerstyle

1. My mother lives with schizophrenia. A lot of people have no understanding of it, so it's hard to talk about it with people. It really takes a toll on the family.

2. I've lived in Jacksonville, FL for all 26 years of my life. I have never once been out of the country. I would like to do so someday.

3. I usually have phrases or words that I say in temporary phases. I used to say "You Lose" and "Mofo" a lot. Currently, I'm saying "WAT" a lot.

4. I grew up into Christianity through my childhood and adolescence. My current belief is agnostic, but sometimes I feel guilty about it. Overall, I think religion is a positive thing. Except for those crazies who try to shove it down your throat.

5. Throughout grade school, I rarely ever cursed. Never smoked. Never drank. Never did drugs. I was strict about not having sex before marriage. Looking back, I understand why I was so socially unaccepted.

6. I try to be organized in everything that I do. When things are planned, everything seems to falls into place better for me.

7. I used to LOVE video games. I wish I had the same love for it as I did when I was a child. In middle school, I once said that I wanted to be the president of Nintendo. I still love video games, but wish I loved it more.

8. I want to learn just about anything and everything that I feel that I can put to use. With this, it's usually hard for me to focus on one thing and becoming a master at it. I tend to learn enough about things just to get me by.

9. I am an electronic gadget freak. Cameras, camcorders, cell phones, laptops, tablets, media players, etc. I switch my electronics out pretty often. If there is a fast multitasking device with good battery life, I probably want it. Next on my list is the 64GB iPod Touch (unless the Zune HD makes a 64GB).

10. I don't really have a "best friend".  I used to in grade school. As we grew up, our interests were not compatible and we pretty much went our separate ways.

11. I've always been shy. Some people think I can talk to anybody, which is absolutely not true.  Depending on whom it is, if I see someone I recognize, I'll try to keep from being seen to avoid small talk. I get a bit anxious with small talk.

12. I hardly ever initiate communication unless I am interested in you, need your knowledge, or have a question. This means I don’t really call people to hang out, IM people to chat, text people to say hi, etc. I think my childhood set me that way in that I didn’t hang out with too many people outside of school so I really had no one to call. Don’t take this offensively please. If you ever want to talk with me, feel free.

13. I love singing and dancing. I LOVE Karaoke as most of you already know. I’m pretty comfortable with my singing voice, but only on specific songs. I almost always have a song stuck in my head. Randomly, I’ll walk on rhythm with the music in my head. When I’m in an elevator, I’ll sometimes bust out into a dance and I’ll stop right before the door opens.

14. I love to play sports. I played intramural baseball from 1989 to 1996. I also played high school football in 10th and 12th grade as a runningback. I want to play more sports, but it seems the friends I have nearby are not interested in doing so.

15. I rarely let my depression show to anyone. People view me as a strong person and I liked to be viewed in that respect. At the same time, I don’t stay down in the dumps for long. I tell myself that I don’t have time to be down about anything. There are too many things to do and not enough time in life to waste on dwelling.

16. I LOVE puns and corny jokes. I LOVE jokes that people take a few seconds to understand. For example… *ahem* “NEXT TIME MY NECK IS DIRTY, IMMA USE KLEENEX”…GET IT? (If you didn’t laugh, U GAY GO WAY)

17. I’ve never been attracted to girls with dark skin. No offense. It’s just not a preference for me. This doesn’t mean I’ll never date a dark-skinned girl, but chances are pretty low.

18. I’ve come to the conclusion that a girl has to be somewhat dorky for me to be interested in them.

19. I don’t take medicine, ibuprofen, aspirin, etc unless I absolutely have no other choice.

20. I’ve never dealt with the death of a close friend or family member. With this, I have a small fear of how I will react when this happens regardless of whether it would be a breakdown or feeling absolutely nothing.

21. I’m a lightweight drunk. I like it. It’s cheaper that way.

22. I have never broken a bone in my body. (knocks wood)

23. I absolutely HATE being wrong about things. A lot of my friends know that, so I believe some of them push me until they drive me over the edge. In fact, this causes me problems in relationships, definitely.  Talk about arguing over something so dumb! It’s probably because of this. I’ve been getting a little better about it.

24. One of my hidden talents as a kid was the ability to fold my ears and make them stick. I just tried it. I can still do it for a small amount of time.

25. DDR. I fell in love with it at first sight. If it was not for this game, I would not have the many friendships that I have developed over the past 8 years. I really think that it saved my social life from going down the drain. I never found to myself to fit with any crowd or clique in high school. I was so involved with DDR that I set a goal to run my own tournament. After running the very first DDR Storm, I KNEW that I had found the perfect group of friends. Ever since then, I’ve used my tournaments to meet new people and keep the community close.

26. (BONUS!) Even though I rarely give thanks, I appreciate my friends and family! Thank you all for being there! :D

Yesterday we walked around the town of Gatlinburg, very nice. I've got alot of pretty pictures that I'm sure alot of you will enjoy. They have a small town here where you can walk around & shop. Lots of mom & pop type stores & good places to eat. Yesterday for lunch we ate at my favorite restaurant Bubba Gump's !!! Can you believe they have one in Gatlinburg? I was shocked & very happy. Also there was an arcade with you guessed it... DDR Supernova inside. I got to play a round of doubles which was very happy. Something funny was when we were outside a shop was playing music & " Jerk it Out " from Supernova was on. I was like.. ddr is following me haha.

Me and Lena are having fun. Just between me and you though, I want to be back home. I do not enjoy mountain driving. Its crazy & very stressful. Lots of turns & blind corners. Today I think were headed to a state park in the smokies so hopefully we'll be safe and have some fun. Hope all is well, God Bless !

An update [Nov. 4th, 2009|01:53 am]

mastergode
Things have generally been pretty stressful for me lately, but I thought that I would bring people up to speed with my life.

First of all, I've submitted proposals to two academic conferences (my first at which I'll be presenting papers), the Midwest Victorian Studies Conference and the International Conference of the Fantastic in the Arts. I haven't received final word yet on either of them, but I suppose we'll see! My paper will be on steampunk, and I'll likely tailor the paper for each conference based on my intended audience. I'm really excited about it, and I hope that I get accepted by both conferences. It would be a great thing to add to the old CV.

That's the exciting news.

The less exciting news is that my grandmother is dying. She's been in the hospital for awhile, and she's breathing through a tube, and things just aren't looking good for her at all. So it seems that I may (or may not, depending on the money) be taking a trip down to Miami this weekend to either attend the funeral or to say goodbye, depending on how badly things go. Meh.

Otherwise, I've just been totally exhausted, lately. Things at home have been 'eh' and things at school have been 'eh'. At least things at work are going well, but I do still feel kind of like I'm wasting my time there. Everyone there is very nice, and I enjoy my time there, but at the end of the day, all I have to show for my time is some money instead of anything that may help my career. That's why I really hope that that job at CCP comes through, because I'd be honing my skills and actually doing something fun and interesting. On the other hand, I haven't heard back from CCP yet (I wrote a follow-up letter last week, and it's been about a month and a half since my submission) so I don't know how likely it is that I'll get the job. But then again, it took them three months to get back to me based on my initial application, and that was only one page.

Beyond that, I've just been really busy with everything going on. I'm trying to ride everyone's ass about the various projects that I'm working on, but people are being really slow, and it's making me sad.

Anyway, that's it for now!

When I get time for it, this journal will likely be reorganized and name-changed and all of that fancy stuff.

When ALL traffic lights are OUT this MEANS TREAT AS A 4 WAY STOP!!!

I'm seriously so annoyed right now.

Pass this piece of knowledge to people you know. It should be mandatory to know this in order to get your drivers license.

Made it safely to Gatlinburg Tennessee !

My first speeding ticket in my life ! Somewhere near the end of North Carolina I was sliding down a hill and the cop supposedely said I was going 71 in a 55. I may or may not have but who am I to argue with the law? I am not used to the hills. Also I think I saw my life flash before my eyes at least a few times the drive up.

Main thing is were safe. It DOES suck to have my first ticket but I am glad to be here safely. I can tell you this, I LOVE Florida and NO HILLS. Driving on hills ( at least to me ) is no fun !

The condo we are staying in is very nice though, I'm thoroughly pleased. I think were going to have a wonderful week here. Hope all is well!!! God Bless everyone !

I know this community is pretty dead BUT I was wondering if any of you people who still are around know of a good junker company that will pay for my broken down vehicle and tow it off to car heaven. I know I won't get much, but I do know there are companies around town. I would like to get as much as I can for this piece of junk.
